On December 16, the Town of Hudson approved its 2025 budget, emphasizing fiscal responsibility while committing to strategic investments in infrastructure and community projects.

For 2025, Hudson forecasts revenues and expenditures totaling $17,687,200. As in many municipalities, the largest portion of the budget, 30%, will be allocated to general administration.

For public safety and transportation, the Town anticipates spending $2.4 million for each category.

Following a 40% increase in the assessed value of residential properties across the municipality, Hudson reduced the base residential tax rate from $0.642 to $0.4662 per $100 of assessment. This adjustment aims to ensure taxpayers are not disproportionately affected by the updated property assessments. The 2025 budget includes a cautious 2% overall tax increase.

“We understand the challenges many households face, and we are committed to keeping taxes affordable while ensuring Hudson’s continued growth and development,” said Mayor Chloé Hutchison.

Community and Infrastructure Investments
Several special projects will be financed through Hudson’s 2025 operational budget, including:

  • Combating invasive plant species: $50,000
  • Financial assistance for purchasing eco-friendly products: $15,000
  • Ash tree removal: $100,000
  • Maintenance and repairs of CNC property footbridges: $35,000
  • Website redesign: $100,000
  • Other community initiatives: $184,000

Additional projects are also planned for next year.

“Thanks to the Council and our employees for their teamwork in delivering a budget aligned with Hudson’s priorities. I would especially like to thank our consultant, Serge Courchesne, CPA, for his expertise and pivotal role in this successful budgeting process,” added Mayor Hutchison.

Three-Year Plan
As required by law, Hudson’s Council also approved its new Three-Year Capital Investment Plan for 2025-2027. The plan considers ongoing projects, anticipated urgent investments, Council priorities, citizens’ debt capacity (taxation rates), and prudent use of budget surpluses.

Hudson plans to invest $23.4 million over the next three years, with $5.9 million earmarked for key projects in 2025, including:

  • Renovations to the community pool, scheduled for late 2025: $125,000
  • Reconstruction of Lakeview Street, funded by a $2.1 million federal grant and a $1.9 million municipal investment, to enhance accessibility and connectivity in this vital corridor: $4 million
  • Compliance with the MRC’s land-use plan: $100,000
  • Updates to the civil security plan: $12,500

Complete details on Hudson’s 2025 budget and the 2025-2027 PTI are available on the Town’s official website.
