Offered in March 2023 to the city council of Vaudreuil-Dorion by students from the Brind'Amour school, the Chaise des générations now has a new home. On Monday, February 24, this symbolic piece of furniture was transferred from the former city hall of Vaudreuil-Dorion, rue Dutrisac, to the municipal pole, located on rue Émile-Bouchard, at 6:30 p.m.

The short ceremony took place just before the very first meeting of the city council which was held on site from 7pm.

Teacher Sébastien Parent accompanied the young schoolchildren for this important moment. La Chaise takes place in the new City Council Hall.

Recall that the design of this colorful chair stemmed from an initiative of the organization Mothers to the Front and aimed at raising awareness among elected officials about the decisions made and the fact that they will have consequences on the future of children. It was designed by the green committee of the Brind'Amour school, led by teacher Sébastien Parent, and with the contribution of teacher and artist Sarah Lanctôt.

Staying the course in the face of climate challenges

During its presentation to the elected representatives in March 2023, in a strong symbolic gesture, the impressive group of students, of teachers, parents and members of Mères au front had walked from the Brind'Amour school to the city hall to accompany the Chair of generations to its final destination.

It is under a rain of applause that nearly one hundred students from the Brind'Amour primary school, accompanied by some teachers and parents, Handed it to the city council members to help them understand the importance of staying on track with climate issues.

“The City Council and I welcome the Chair of Generations with honour. The message carried by these young people and the representatives of Mothers at the Front is strong. This chair will be a constant reminder of our duty to future generations in our decision-making,” said Mayor Guy Pilon at the unveiling in 2023.

The chair has a bicycle wheel in the center of which is the Earth. A heart and glasses adorn the design of the planet to remind everyone that the Earth is alive and it also has a heart. All around the wheel are stuck children’s figurines holding hands.

The seat of the chair is painted green and blue, and cardboard animals remind us of the importance of wildlife. Finally, behind the chair is an old car plate on which the motto I remember is written. A reminder that the Earth is in danger and must be cared for.

In addition to the council room, the municipal division also houses the following municipal departments: Town Hall and General Management, Land Use Planning, Communications, Finance and Treasury, Engineering and Environment, Registry and Legal Affairs, Human resources and information technology and geomatics. The municipal library will also be moving there this spring.
