A potential housing project on the horizon
Zoning change in the Maison Charlebois woodland
Par Félix Sabourin, Journaliste
At the regular meeting of January 21, the Ville de Rigaud adopted the second draft of bylaw 275-31-2024 amending zoning bylaw 275-2010. The purpose of this amendment is to allow the construction of apartment buildings (Multifamily H3 use) in zone P-158, the area where the Maison Charlebois is located, as well as the surrounding woodland.
For the moment, this new by-law is still at the second draft stage, i.e. it has been presented and adopted at a municipal meeting. It will come into force once the necessary legal steps have been taken.
A rule that does not meet with unanimous approval
The Ville de Rigaud has no regulations that would oblige the owner to replant trees following the cutting of trees in sector P-158. Nor can it intervene in tree-cutting operations.
Many citizens believe that massive tree-cutting in this area would greatly alter the surrounding urban landscape.
Citizen protest measures
The by-law may still be submitted for citizen approval. To be accepted, the request for approval must be signed by at least 12 citizens living in zones close to zone P-158.
Citizens have until February 4 at 4:30 p.m. to send in their signatures, failing which the by-law will be officially accepted without further consultation. All the information is available on the Ville de Rigaud website under the public notice tab.
To sign, signatures can be sent to the Ville de Rigaud by mail, in person at the Town Hall or by e-mail to the Town Clerk's Office.
