In spring, Nuances moves to the Musée régional
Shades of black and white at the Guy-Godin library
Since the beginning of the year, the Guy-Godin library has been hosting the Nuances exhibition by Vaudreuil-Soulanges-based Groupe Passion Photo (GPP), featuring some 15 local photographers. The exhibition will run until February. After which, this spring, it will travel to the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges in its multifunctional hall.
Néomédia interviewed Robert Warren, one of Groupe Passion Photo's regular photographers, about this exhibition, which had already been the subject of two other performances at the Saint-Zotique and Guy-Godin libraries in 2024.
Mr. Warren really appreciates the Guy-Godin library's showroom: “It's a very beautiful room; it has great lighting and lots of light with its many windows”.
Nuances presents some thirty black-and-white photographs of urban scenes and landscapes on brushed aluminum. Printing on brushed aluminum gives the image a modern, industrial look. The brushed lines of the material catch the light; the contrast between the matte of the inks and that of the metal makes a photo somehow unique and striking. An image becomes a unique and eye-catching work of contemporary wall art.
What's more, explains Warren, “depending on the point of view from which the photos are viewed, the image differs; not to mention that the material is resistant and does not degrade”.
Mr. Warren underlines the important work carried out by photographer Alain Desormiers to work on all the photos before the final printing.
Here is the list of local photographers who took part in the photo event, each of whom exhibited two photos:
Suzanne Bouffard, Daniel Bouguerra, Josée Daoust, Alain Désormiers, Guy Di Girolamo, Jacques Dupont, Ginette Laplante, Charles McSween, Philippe Moreau, Suzanne Paiement, Claudia Romero, Marie-Ange Rozon, Sébastien Tessier, Colette Toussaint and Robert Warren.
Groupe Passion Photo has also created a Regards sur Vaudreuil-Soulanges Facebook page, followed by over 1,200 followers.
Mr. Warren recounts that GPP got its start when Lise Chartier, historian and president of the Île-Perrot 350th anniversary committee, selected them to produce the 350th anniversary photos: “Our group took 1,700 photos, including many of houses in Ville-de-l'Île-Perrot, Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, Pincourt and Terrasse-Vaudreuil, and compared them with old photos taken in the same places, as part of the 350th anniversary celebrations. Several of these photos were presented in turn in the Pincourt, Guy-Godin and Marie-Uguay libraries,” he points out.
GPP is already in its eighth exhibition. Groupe Passion Photo is an association whose aim is to create a space for creativity through photography. For this exhibition, GPP has benefited from the know-how and great generosity of one of Quebec's leading printers: Ciné-Affiches.
