On Wednesday, police officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) carried out searches in the Greater Montreal area, including L'Île-Perrot, in connection with an investigation into a suspected fraud ring.

A citizen who contacted Néomédia in the early evening indicated that the raid began at around 5:45 this morning at a residence on Montée Sagala, and that the authorities were on site for several hours. This information has yet to be confirmed by RCMP communications.

On Network X, formerly Twitter, the RCMP indicated that the suspects were involved in money laundering and sales tax fraud.

The investigation that led to the raids was reportedly led by the Money Laundering Investigation Team, in collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency and the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre (FINTRAC).

More details to follow.
