Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been happening in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days.  

  

19% of Quebecers have difficulty writing

The Regroupement des groupes populaires en alphabétisation du Québec (RGPAQ) regretfully noted on December 12 that in the space of a decade, the proportion of people with low literacy skills has increased in Quebec, according to the results of the Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) unveiled on December 10 by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Retailers unhappy with tax vacation

While the federal government's tax vacation, which came into effect on Saturday December 14, may have made consumers happy, it has also sowed discontent among affected merchants. Néomédia spoke to two store owners in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area.

On Thursday, December 19, the Centre sportif Soulanges in Saint-Polycarpe was the scene of a wonderful initiative combining sport and culture. At 10 a.m., the Pionniers de Soulanges jumped on the ice to take on the field hockey team from the Jaanimmarik school in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik. Interview with Charles Villemaire, the instigator of this great initiative, who is also a history teacher. 

Rivière Delisle in Les Coteaux: financial assistance from the Municipality

The Municipality of Les Coteaux announces the implementation of a financial assistance program for owners of residences located near the Delisle River and affected by Bylaw 303. The resolution was unanimously approved by the municipality's elected officials at the regular meeting held on December 16. 

First responders coming soon to Saint-Zotique?

By 2025, the Ville de Saint-Zotique would like to set up a first responder service on its territory. Discussions are currently underway between the municipal administration and its Fire Safety Department.
