Work advancement on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge
Here are the latest details on the work that caused the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge to close twice last September.
Weekend of September 6
The first closure, on the weekend of September 6, was to facilitate the detour of the eastbound section of Highway 40, between the Chemin de Senneville entrance and the Anciens-Combattants interchange. The space freed up in the middle of the highway enabled the team to continue building the drainage system for the new bridge.
Weekend of September 20
The weekend closure on September 20 allowed traffic to switch from the westbound lanes of Highway 40 between the Anciens-Combattants interchange and Exit 40 to Chemin de Senneville, to the opposite direction at Senneville. This configuration will remain in place for approximately one year. In addition, the team worked on relocating all motorway traffic lanes (east and west) onto the new eastbound slabs at Vaudreuil.
Since these operations, the work on the new bridge can be seen on the westbound axis of Highway 40. The team began demolition work prior to reconstruction of the drainage system and highway slabs, in connection with construction of the new bridge.
The closures also enabled the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge maintenance team to install a membrane, asphalt paving and repair slabs.
