A floral work of art for the Pointe-des-Cascades library
Over the summer, the community of Pointe-des-Cascades came together around a unique artistic project: the creation of a collaborative floral work. Involving over 85 citizens, employees and volunteers of all ages, the project celebrated the municipality's collective spirit and commitment to creativity and cultural development.
This six-foot-high floral sculpture is an ode to the writer's blank page, transporting us into a world of magic and wonder.
Designed by Catherine Desrochers, professional florist and floral artist, the work, entitled Le monde magique et merveilleux des livres, is part of the municipal library's private collection, and its creation was made possible by the Programme d'innovation culturelle et numérique of the Conseil des arts et de la culture de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
“On each paper inserted in the bouquets, people shared with us a book that had marked or inspired them. It was touching to hear them tell their stories during our meetings,” says Catherine Desrochers.
Throughout the 2024 summer season, cultural mediation activities were organized to enable families, participants in the café-rencontre, young people attending the day camp (arts component), municipal employees/volunteers and employees of Réseau Biblio Montérégie to actively participate in the creation of the bouquets that would end up in the final piece.
The sculpture can be admired during the library's new opening hours.
