Mosaic artist Roxane Campeau in residence at the Marie-Uguay Library
The Town of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot welcomes mosaic artist Roxane Campeau for the fourth edition of Artist in Residence at the Marie-Uguay Library.
To mark the start of this wonderful collaboration with this artist, the Town invites you to the vernissage of the Œuvres récentes exhibition on Friday September 27 from 5 to 7 pm at the Marie-Uguay library. The Œuvres récentes exhibition features several series of mosaics created since 2020.
These works assemble metals and found objects, including typist's keystrokes, creating a bridge between mosaic and literature. The vernissage will feature an intuitive writing workshop.
In addition to this exhibition, presented at the library from September 27 to January 24, Roxane Campeau will be offering a range of activities adapted to the Marie-Uguay library's public (children, teenagers and adults) during the fall 2024 and winter 2025.
Through mosaics, Roxane Campeau explores the union of materials, tackling the recurring themes of rhythm and movement, radiance and framing. Attracted by scraps and metal, Roxane deconstructs snippets of life and restores the simple, poetic beauty of abandoned matter.
“By hijacking the perception of everyday objects, assembling them in abstract or semi-figurative compositions, I create mosaics of luminous sensitivity that bring to the fore an intimate and relational perception,” emphasizes the artist.
Roxane's practice is a place of contemplation, slowness and repetitive gestures. Collaborative work, cultural mediation and artistic decompartmentalization are springboards for pushing back the boundaries of her discipline.
A self-taught artist, Roxane is a member of Atelier Silex in Trois-Rivières, where her studio is located. She lives near the forest on the edge of the village of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, cradled by the waters of the Yamachiche River.
A three-time recipient of a grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, she has had several solo and group exhibitions in Canada and the United States.
Roxane Campeau's residency will continue until May 2025.
