The MU organization gives a second life to a mural from the Arts-plastiques études program
The mural Racines, unveiled last March in front of the Théâtre Paul-Émile Meloche at the Cité-des-Jeunes in Vaudreuil-Dorion by the Mu organization and students in the high school's Arts-plastiques études program, was given a second life last week when MU posted a photo and video of the event on its website.
As the organization's media information officer, Julie Carlier, explains, "MU is present in some 30 schools each year, offering solid training in the arts that enables students to develop harmoniously and artistically. The final photos, including a video, were posted on the MU website a few days ago."
These media elements remind us that, in the company of artist Bryan Beyung, young people from Cité-des-Jeunes high school created a collective mural after exploring several artistic techniques. They also had the chance to meet poet Nella Tetam, and create their own poems, which can be found in the final work.
On the theme of culture in the French language, the work highlights the Latin origin of the word cultura, whose etymology refers to the action of cultivating the earth and the soul. The mural features excerpts from three students' slams, an ancient theater mask, elements of nature taken from collages made by the project's students, and a photo of Félix Leclerc's guitar, which once resided in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
It's a nice reminder for the young people in the Arts-plastiques études program at the Cité-des-Jeunes de Vaudreuil-Dorion, who have had several interesting artistic experiences with their teacher Nancy Lépine in 2023-2024.
About MU
MU is the only charitable organization that donates its funds to its educational mission. Through an educational program, our mission is to enable today's youth to tame mural art as a means of self-expression. Young people engage with pride in their community by beautifying it, and are awakened to the value and positive impact of art in space. Our community program targets young Montrealers (disadvantaged backgrounds, recent immigration, other predisposing factors) living mainly in low-income housing projects, to help them discover new passions and interests through meaningful encounters with professional artists who act as mentors.
