Over the next few days
All American wines and products to be removed from SAQ shelves
It will soon no longer be possible to buy wines and other products from the USA at the Société des alcools du Québec and on its website. This was confirmed earlier this Tuesday, March 4, as the 25% tariffs promised by the Trump administration finally came into effect.
This symbolic decision had already been announced the day before the tariffs were due to take effect, originally scheduled for early February 2025. The measure applies to all U.S. products on the shelves of SAQ branches across the province.
The government also wants the SAQ to stop supplying American alcoholic beverages to other businesses such as supermarkets, agencies, bars and restaurants.
It should be noted that less than 7% of still wines sold at the SAQ, i.e. wines that do not give off carbon dioxide when opened, come from the United States.
The withdrawal operation could take a few days.
