The Fondation Aléo believes in talent, determination and perseverance. Through the Accès Nouvelle Génération 2025 program, 78 talented young student-athletes today received tangible recognition, a bursary and access to lifelong coaching services at the Maison du Loisir et du Sport. Coteau-du-Lac residents Alison Douhou and Mia Douhou are among the recipients.

Alison received a $1,500 flag soccer bursary; she is a student at Collège Ahuntsic and her donor is R. Howard Webster. Mia, for her part, also received a $1,500 bursary in athletics; she studies at Soulanges High School and her donor is Power Corporation, all to give them the impetus to leap over obstacles and achieve their goals.

As life-long members of the Aléo family, these scholarship recipients now benefit not only from the cheques they receive, but also from services provided by the Foundation that contribute to their academic, sporting and human success. A total of $150,000 has been donated in scholarships and services.

During the event, a panel made up of two donors - Brian Harelimana, Toronto Argonauts player and 2016 Aléo scholarship recipient, and Ezechiel Tieide, British Columbia Lions player and 2023 Aléo scholarship recipient - as well as a speaker, Imane Aitelfanani, in charge of extracurricular activities at École secondaire Calixa-Lavallée, described the impact of the Fondation Aléo on scholarship recipients.

As first-hand witnesses, they confirmed the enormous difference that such encouragement can make in young people.

The bursary includes undeniable financial support. It is also coupled with recognition of their talent and efforts. Together, all these elements become a driving force towards achieving their goals.

A 3rd cohort for the Accès Nouvelle Génération program

The Accès Nouvelle Génération program came into being in 2023 with the aim of supporting promising young student-athletes by helping them remove certain barriers to entry into high-level sport, such as financial, academic or even geographical distance constraints.

The Aléo Foundation's aim is to recognize and celebrate this talent, by encouraging perseverance in school and sport. Among other things, the support services offered help them to meet the challenges of reconciling the multiple spheres of their lives.

In recent years, the majority of young people in the program have joined Quebec teams and/or Division 1 college sports teams of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ). In addition, there have been a number of cases of students dropping out of school as a result of the support services provided by the Fondation Aléo. And that's not counting the high ambitions that now motivate these recipients to pursue their academic and sporting careers beyond what they could have imagined, particularly at CEGEP and university.

To further enhance this program, leading partners have joined forces with the Fondation Aléo for this 2025 event. Thanks to the R. Howard Webster Foundation, Power Corporation, the Gilles Chatel Foundation, the Leblanc Family Foundation, Gildan, Planète Mobile, Christelle Doyon, The Valsef Dream Big Foundation, Ezechiel Tieide, Brian Harelima, Normand Béliveau, the Turcotte-Groulx and Esparbès families. It's thanks to the support of committed partners like these that Aléo is able to carry out its mission.

The Foundation's mission

“The mission of the Fondation Aléo is to maximize the full potential of the greatest number of excellent student-athletes from all walks of life, in order to generate a significant and lasting impact on their lives and on society as a whole. Through the Accès Nouvelle Génération program, we are specifically targeting the portion of young student-athletes who are approaching excellence, but who face significant challenges. We want to offer them access to the next level and support them on their journey. From now on, they are public role models for their school, their community and our society, and we're very proud of them!” says Patricia Demers, Executive Director of the Fondation Aléo.
