The case of Yan Lecompte, a 40-year-old man accused of several sexual offences against minor victims, was back in court on Wednesday, February 26, before Judge Joey Dubois.

The criminal lawyer representing him, Alexandre Dubé, asked that the case be postponed until Wednesday, March 12. ”When my client last appeared in court, I made a formal offer to the Crown. Me Émond told me this morning that the proposal had been refused by the complainant. I have therefore informed the accused of his options, and he wishes to reflect on them for two weeks. We'll use this time to consider whether or not to hold a preliminary inquiry on certain charges. It's also likely that a release will be waived. We'll also be able to take a position on the matter at the next court date,” he said during his client's appearance, which took place via videoconference.

If Yan Lecompte's files go to trial, Me Dubé informed the court of his intention. “These will be separate trials, since the 2nd information has seven complainants and some of the charges could go to jury trial, while others won't.”

Yan Lecompte will have to be present at the Valleyfield courthouse during this next stage. During the proceedings, the accused is being held on remand at the Bordeaux penitentiary in Montreal.

It should be remembered that, at the time of the initial charges laid against him, he was heavily involved in a well-known local sports association as a coach and member of the board of directors.

The accused faces charges of sexual interference and assault on minor victims, as well as sexual assault, fondling, incitement to sexual touching of the victim and his person, sexual exploitation, production and possession of child pornography, transmission of sexually explicit material, luring and exhibitionism.

Among other things, he allegedly maintained an extramarital relationship with a minor for several years. The abuse began when she was 12 and continued for 10 years.
