In conjunction with the opening of the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion will build a $4.5 million multifunctional footbridge to improve traffic flow in the area. Work is scheduled for 2026-2027.

The structure will pass over highway 30, parallel to Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes, on the north side, in the extension of the existing multifunctional path. To date, the cost of the project is estimated at around $4.5 million. The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion will obtain the value of the work following the results of the call for tenders issued by the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD).

This process will be launched in the coming weeks.  “Once the costs are known, the municipal council will make its decision and the city will indicate to MTMD whether it will go ahead with the construction of the runway and footbridge,” we state by e-mail.

In order to reduce the tax burden on citizens, the City will be applying for financial assistance for this initiative. “The City is on the lookout for financial assistance programs for active transportation for which the project might qualify, and which would fund a certain percentage of the project. The city council could decide not to go ahead if we don't have a subsidy.”

For those interested, Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) is not involved in this project. It is a municipal project. “If it is eligible, government assistance would come from government subsidy programs.”

At its meeting on Monday February 24, the Vaudreuil-Dorion council approved an additional expenditure of $15,000, excluding taxes, for professional services. These were aimed at validating the final concept, plans and specifications, and monitoring the multifunctional platform.

At the same meeting, the elected officials adopted a resolution to apply for financial assistance from the federal government. This is part of the Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada program of the Active Transportation Fund.

“If the grant is approved, it could cover up to 60% of project costs. However, we don't know if we'll be able to get it, since a federal election is due in the short term, and that may or may not have an impact on our application. We'll take our chances,” said Mayor Guy Pilon at the public meeting.
