It must obtain a government certificate of authorization to do so
20th Street: Saint-Zotique spends $930,608 to extend it
After years of negotiations, the Ville de Saint-Zotique is finally moving ahead with the extension of 20th Street. At its meeting on Tuesday, February 18, the municipal council approved a resolution authorizing payment of $930,608.
The municipal administration wishes to obtain a government certificate of authorization from the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs for the extension of 20th Street. Under section 46.0.5 of the Environment Quality Act, the Ministry has determined that this project affects a wetland or water body.
In return for the ministerial authorization, the Town will contribute $930,608 to obtain the MELCCFP's approval for this extension, which will benefit Saint-Zotique's economic development and population growth.
The expense will be financed and paid from the unallocated surplus. Following the unanimous adoption of the resolution, Mayor Yvon Chiasson said he was pleased to see the file moving in the right direction.
"It will ease traffic on Route 338 when the extension is completed. We're going to extend it all the way behind the O'St-François residence. There are already existing sections. We're going to connect them all together. We'd like to go as far as 4th Avenue. It's a project that goes back a long way. When I took office, Mrs. Legault's administration was already talking about it. We have two years to do the work once we have the certificate," he said.
