At its last meeting of the municipal council held on February 11, the City of Saint-Lazare rejected the request of the Club quad des Trois-Lacs to modify the layout of a portion of its circuit on the municipal territory. The club wanted to allow off-road vehicles (ATVs) to circulate on the edge of the Cité des Jeunes road, between Sainte-Angélique and Saint-Louis roads.

The City’s decision is based primarily on safety considerations. Due to the high traffic on this road, the speed allowed and the presence of several draft entrances, the municipal safety advisory committee recommended that this application be denied.

As a result, the City has formally expressed its opposition to the club and will therefore not support the club in its efforts with the MTMD. The municipality reaffirmed its opposition to off-road vehicle traffic on the Cité des Jeunes road between Rue de la Paix and Montée Saint-Lazare.

Conditional support for snowmobilers

In addition, the Harfang des Neiges Snowmobilers Club Inc. has submitted an application for the construction of a crossing at the intersection of the Labossière hill and the Cité-des-Jeunes road. As with the Club quad des Trois-Lacs application, safety issues were raised, particularly due to heavy traffic and manoeuvres at this intersection.

However, the City was open to the proposal and decided to support their request with MDLT, but under a strict condition: the installation of a traffic light at this intersection. In the absence of such a fire, the City will oppose the development of the crossing.

The resolution was passed by City Council with the support of all councillors, except for David Hill who opposed it.
