On February 12, the Cégep de Valleyfield Foundation highlighted the commitment and determination of its students by awarding bursaries totalling $33,300 to 33 recipients from various programs of study, at a moving event held at the Chez Rose café.

The event, attended by around a hundred people, celebrated the perseverance of the recipients, who were accompanied by their loved ones, as well as donors and Cégep staff. The scholarships were awarded thanks to the generosity of partners such as Mutuelle d'Attraction, the Rotary Club, the Malo family and many others.

Scholarships to support the success of Collège students

Some thirty scholarships for the year 2025 have been awarded to students in various fields. The $1,000 Gisèle Guérin Rémillard Bursary was awarded to Mathis Godhue, a student in the Natural Sciences program, while the $500 Hector-Besner Bursary was awarded to Anastasiya Tsvetkova, enrolled in the Nursing program.

The $1,000 Groupe Tremblay Bursary was awarded to Mathis Ranger, a student in Mechanical Engineering Techniques, while the $1,000 Centre D'Main de Femmes Bursary was awarded to Tammy Desroches Roy, a participant in the Tremplin DEC program.

The Bélair-Gingras Bursaries of $1,000 each were awarded to Tanya Leclerc (Accounting and Management Techniques) and Constance Coupal (Legal Techniques), while the Rotary Club Bursaries, also worth $1,000 each, went to Audrey Perrier (Special Education Techniques) and Thérésa Henry (Legal Techniques).

The Martial-Malo Bursaries, worth $2,000 each, were awarded to students in two categories: Back to School, where Nancy Lefebvre (Nursing) and Guillaume Poirier (Natural Sciences) were honored, and Perseverance, with Agelika Peppas (Special Education Techniques) and Kawtar El Ouardi (Nursing) among the recipients. The High School Success category saw Marika Pilon (Specialized Education Techniques) and Matis Hamel (Humanities) receive this distinction.

Bourses Mutuelle d'Attraction, worth $1,000 each, were awarded to Annabelle Dutil (Computer Science) and Annabelle Raymond (Special Education).

The Michel Vinet Perseverance Bursaries, also worth $1,000 each, were awarded to Karolanne Bergeron-Huser, Stéphanie Gallant-Rousselle and Kimpir Miyamba (all three in Nursing), as well as Marie-Eve Hubert and Carolane Dugas-Lapointe (in Special Education Techniques).

The Perseverance Bursaries - Continuing Education were awarded in two categories. Bursaries of $600 each were awarded to full-time students in Special Education Techniques: Émilie Brochu, Sabrina Talarico-Gagnon, Mylène Meloche, Maude Thibault, Alexandra Bayard-Rochon, Nihel Ben Salah Meftah, Agboman Josephine Djetouan, Savana Ménard, Marilou Roy Trudel and Isabelle Legris.

Bursaries of $400 were then awarded to Mélanie Lamothe and Élodie Fournier, who are also pursuing their studies in Special Education Techniques, but on a part-time basis.

A proud ceremony for Cégep management

Several members of the teaching staff and management of the Cégep de Valleyfield were present at the ceremony.

Patrick Tanguay, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of the evening for him: “It's my favorite Foundation event, because it's always a very moving evening. When I see the reaction of the scholarship recipients, it motivates me to continue my volunteer involvement with the Foundation.”

He also emphasized the importance of celebrating students' hard work: “It's important to highlight the careers of students who stand out for their personal or academic stories. That's what we're doing tonight.”

Marc Rémillard, General Manager of Cégep de Valleyfield, proudly spoke of the Foundation's work: “This is Hooked on School Week, and it's crucial to highlight the students who make it a priority. In discussions with other Cégeps in Quebec, I can confirm that we're creating a buzz with our Foundation. It is truly connected to the needs of the Cégep and its students.”

He also highlighted the achievements of the students: “I'd like to say to tonight's scholarship recipients, you are role models for the young people around you, thanks to your accomplishments. You have a tremendous impact on them.”

In 2025, the Foundation plans to award $500,000 to Cégep students, including $200,000 in the form of scholarships.
