Star Académie: Laurence Libersan will sing to keep her place at the Academy
Vaudreuil-Dorion-born Laurence Libersan will have to sing and impress the audience to keep her place at the Académie. She'll be fighting for her place alongside Zoey and Victoria.
Indeed, the 19-year-old singer was put in jeopardy by the faculty this Tuesday evening following her evaluation during which she performed the piece Danser Danser.
"She brought her own color to the song. You couldn't hear Nanette or the version I did. It was really Laurence's version," said Émilie Bégin, who covered Nanette Workman's hit in the first season of Star Académie in 2003, and who now teaches dance and sports at the Academy.
For her part, Véronic Dicaire emphasized the young performer's restraint during her performances. "When she's on stage, I see her as Laurence who holds back and suddenly starts thinking too much. I'd like to see the Laurence we know spontaneously," she said.
"I don't mind, I'm happy. I have things to work on. I'm very open, but right now I can't wait to show who I am and make it clear," she said, entering the office of director Garou.
"What we find is that you think a lot about other people. You're tripping over everything that's going on here. When you're told to calm down, you do, and beautiful things come out of it. One thing you could be criticized for is when you were told to do less, there's a little something lazier that happened," explained Garou.
This Sunday, Laurence will perform Laurence Jalbert's Tomber. Although she admitted to not knowing the song, the young performer said she was up for the challenge. “I want everyone to fall in love with Laurence,” the director told her.
The Star Académie variety show will be broadcast live on TVA this Sunday, February 16 at 7pm.
