Soon a second traffic circle in Vaudreuil-Dorion
On February 3, the municipal council of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion adopted five resolutions to expropriate lots located on its territory. These steps are necessary to enable the construction of a traffic circle in the area of rue de la Gare, rue Cité-des-Jeunes and rue Henry-Ford.
This work is planned to improve access to the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital, which will be built on boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes, near chemin de la Petite-Rivière.
The decision to build a roundabout was prompted by the recommendations of studies aimed at improving traffic flow at the Henry-Ford intersections with boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes. The decision was taken jointly by the City, MTMD, CISSSMO and SQI. The MTMD will act as spokesperson in this matter.
The expropriated lots are located along Cité-des-Jeunes and de la Gare boulevards, as well as on Henry-Ford and Chemin de la Petite-Rivière. According to the resolutions adopted by the elected officials, only parts of the lots are currently subject to expropriation procedures.
One of the lots affected by the expropriation measure is a shopping center housing Pacini, Tim Hortons, Subway and Benny & Co restaurants, as well as a Couche-Tard gas station and a number of other businesses. Rest assured, however, that none of the buildings are affected by the expropriation procedure, as indicated by the City in an e-mail.
Following the adoption of the resolutions on Monday, February 3, the Town also entrusted the firm DHC avocats with the task of drafting the expropriation notices. Owners of the lots concerned will receive a copy in the coming weeks. Work is scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed by the end of 2026.
Expropriation costs borne by SQI and the city
As with all expropriation procedures, there are costs associated with them. In this case, the Société québécoise d'infrastructure (SQI) will assume all expropriation expenses and related eligible costs for part of two of the five lots.
For its part, the City will assume the expropriation expenses and eligible costs for the remaining portions of the other three lots. As stipulated in the Expropriation Act, the owners of the expropriated lots will receive compensatory indemnity.
