To support them in their activities
Vaudreuil-Dorion donates $523,000 to its organizations and athletes
On Thursday, February 7, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion brought together representatives of community, cultural, sports and leisure organizations, as well as up-and-coming athletes, to present them with grants totalling almost $523,000 to support their various activities.
The networking event was also an opportunity to thank the 137 volunteers from 49 organizations for their invaluable contribution to the community. Each year, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion provides them with financial assistance, as well as logistical support for their events, and meeting and storage space. This year, a total of $520,000 was allocated.
“Vaudreuil-Dorion owes much of its dynamism to the diversity of quality activities offered by the many organizations operating on its territory. The city provides the essential infrastructures, but it's our volunteers who bring them to life by offering sports, cultural and community activities for all generations. Thank you to them for making Vaudreuil-Dorion such an enriching and unifying place,” said Mayor Guy Pilon.
Participants were treated to a talk by Sylvie Bernier, gold medallist in diving at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. She delivered her lecture Être et agir, un tremplin vers le mieux-être (Being and acting, a springboard to wellness), which explained how to integrate healthy lifestyle habits into daily life to achieve a better balance between personal and professional life.
Grants to athletes
The evening also saw the presentation of $3,188.97 to seven young Vaudreuil-Dorion athletes in various disciplines, identified as Espoir, Relève or Élite by their federations. This financial support, part of the Athlete Support Policy, is intended to highlight the athletic performance of young Vaudreuil-Dorion athletes and encourage their participation in major sporting events, such as championships, selections or competitions of provincial, national or international scope, as well as specialization or advanced training courses recognized by their federations and necessary for their development.
This year, the following athletes received an amount to finance part of their participation in various sporting events:
Mayor Guy Pilon was keen to highlight the efforts of these young athletes: “Getting involved in a sport requires great discipline, and I'd like to congratulate you on your achievements. You have a lot to be proud of! Parents also deserve a participation medal, as their role is essential. Their commitment and dedication, by devoting time and energy, contribute greatly to the development of their children and the achievement of their goals.”
