Between now and March 31
1.9 million in cuts at the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs
The Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs (CSSTL) will cut up to $1.9 million from its budget for the 2024-2025 school year. This “budgetary effort” is required by the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ) in order to respect the budget envelope granted by the latter for the fiscal year, and will have to be implemented by March 31.
“Our organization took the time necessary to evaluate its financial situation and, following various consultations, was able to determine the actions to be taken in order to reach the requested amount, while minimizing the impact on direct services to students”, explains the administration of the CSSTL in a press release published on January 31.
Thus, among the targeted actions, the CSSTL is planning a temporary reduction in spending on building maintenance projects and employee training.
“Depending on their specific needs and the reality of their respective environments, schools will also have to reduce their spending on certain budget envelopes allocated to them,” the press release states.
It should be noted that the unspent amounts from the recruitment freeze for staff not working directly with students, in effect since November 1, 2024, also contribute to this financial effort, maintains the CSSTL.
“We would like to reassure our students, their parents and all our staff that all measures taken are aimed at preserving the quality of educational services,” concludes the CSSTL.
