Vermiculite: Hudson closes its town hall
The Town of Hudson wishes to advise its citizens that access to the Town Hall will be impossible for the next 14 days, from February 4 to 21, due to the presence of vermiculite.
"During a minor renovation, vermiculite, an insulating material that may contain asbestos, was discovered. Mitigation experts have been contacted to assess the situation," said the municipal administration on Monday evening.
Vermiculite is a mineral found naturally throughout the world and used as insulation and in agriculture. Health Canada has discovered that some brands of vermiculite insulation may contain asbestos and could pose a health risk.
"To ensure the health and safety of our employees and the public, we have made the decision to temporarily close City Hall and relocate our team. We will reopen as soon as the work is completed," said the City of Hudson.
During the closure, residents are invited to visit the Community Centre reception desk at 394 Main Street. A member of the municipal organization can also be reached by e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at 450-458-5347, ext. 0.
