Neomedia in-house survey
In the wake of Amazon's warehouse closures, will you be boycotting the company?
On Wednesday January 22, Amazon announced the closure of its seven Quebec warehouses, including the one at 80 Léon-Malouin in Coteau-du-Lac's Alta industrial park. The topic inspired the Néomédia Vaudreuil-Soulanges team to ask this week's poll question.
Contacted by telephone, Amazon spokesperson Kristin Gable pointed out that the 1,700 or so employees across Quebec have been offered compensation including up to 14 weeks' pay following the closure of the warehouses. “Transitional benefits such as external employment relocation resources are also available,” she added.
Without giving a specific date, Ms. Gable maintained that the closures would take place over the next two months. “We are entering a transition period that will last two months. It's important to say that, during this period, Amazon will continue to occupy its warehouses and continue its operations to support its customers.”
“Following a recent review of our Quebec operations, we saw that returning to a third-party delivery model supported by small local businesses, similar to what we had in 2020 will provide the same good service and even savings for our customers in the long run,” said another Amazon spokesperson, Barbara Agrait, in a statement sent to Neomedia.
