Federal MP for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Peter Schiefke, announced on Friday, January 24, his support for economist Mark Carney in the race to succeed Justin Trudeau as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.

In a statement shared on his social media, Schiefke praised the candidate’s expertise.

“Mark embodies the leadership Canada needs in this time of uncertainty. His unparalleled experience as a global financial leader, combined with his clear vision for sustainable economic growth, makes him particularly well-suited to address the challenges Canadians face today and in the years ahead,” the statement reads.

Mark Carney is a Canadian economist and a prominent figure in global finance. Over the course of his career, he has served as Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.

After leaving the Bank of England, Carney became actively involved in the fight against climate change. He currently serves as the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, where he encourages businesses and financial institutions to adopt sustainable practices.

“Whether it’s housing affordability, the cost of living, or the challenges posed by climate change, I firmly believe that Mark has the expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement the solutions we need here in our community of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and across Canada,” Schiefke stated.
