The Comité des Fêtes du 150e de Saint-Lazare invites everyone to celebrate in style on February 15 and 16.

As part of the festivities, young and old are invited to a pre-game BBQ on February 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the parking lot of the Saint-Lazare Sports Center.

On the menu: hamburgers and hot dogs grilled to perfection thanks to the collaboration of the Club Optimiste de Saint-Lazare, the HRS Minor Hockey Association and the Société historique de Saint-Lazare. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to these local organizations.

“The BBQ takes place just before the Old Canadiens game against a Saint-Lazare all-star team. You don't need tickets to the game to take part in the BBQ. It's open to everyone, Saint-Lazare residents and out-of-towners alike. In addition to the tailgate experience, people will be able to discover the beer brewed especially for the 150th by Microbrasserie Trois-Lacs, and who knows, maybe meet some former Canadiens players,” explains Paul Lavigne, president of the Comité des Fêtes du 150e de Saint-Lazare.

Without being able to confirm who the former field hockey players will be, Mr. Lavigne nevertheless indicates that there will be 17 of them.

Antique snowmobile exhibition and ice bed race

The celebrations continue on February 16, this time at Les Forestiers nature park in Saint-Lazare.

Starting at 10 a.m., antique snowmobile exhibition, antique snowmobile photo exhibit and demonstration of winter camping techniques.

At 11 a.m., it's time for the zany ice-bed race. “We're inviting people to form a team, build their car and dress up for what promises to be a spectacular race. We're hoping for 25 teams,” adds Mr. Lavigne.

Between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. will follow the parade of young builders of decorated sleighs. This is for children aged 6 to 12.

Finally, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., it's time for the radar challenge, i.e. acceleration races for antique snowmobiles.

“We're inviting people from all over, not just Saint-Lazare, to take part in Saint-Lazare's 150th anniversary festivities. It's a great celebration for everyone,” concludes Paul Lavigne.
