Home invasion on rue Du Chêne in Saint-Lazare
At around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, armed suspects broke into a residence on rue Du Chêne, in the Vallée-Chaline district of Saint-Lazare. Two people were on the premises and suffered injuries that do not suggest any threat to their lives.
“The suspects wanted to obtain the contents of a safe on the premises. The robbers made off with the safe, leaving the occupants of the residence with injuries. A suspect vehicle was located further away, and forensic tests were carried out on it during the night. To date, no arrests have been made in this case, and the investigation has been turned over to the Sûreté du Québec's Major Crimes Division,” confirms police spokesman Jean-Raphaël Drolet.
According to a citizen who witnessed the scene and contacted Néomédia, the Vallée-Chaline area is particularly prone to this type of crime. “For some time now, there have been a lot of cars driving around, which seem to be casing the area. What's more, the area isn't really well lit, so it's definitely easy for thieves to sneak onto lots and enter houses. We really need more police surveillance in the neighborhood,” he confided on condition of anonymity.
