This Wednesday evening
A home on rue Gauthier in Saint-Polycarpe has been engulfed in flames
Saint-Polycarpe firefighters had to intervene at 218 rue Gauthier around 6.15pm on Wednesday, January 15, after a fire, possibly of electrical origin, broke out.
“The address is home to three small terraced houses, and the fire started in one of them. Fortunately, the blaze was quickly brought under control, preventing the flames from spreading to the two neighbouring residences. According to our findings, the fire was caused by the failure of an electrical appliance, an air exchanger”, summarizes Michel Bélanger, Director of the Saint-Polycarpe Fire Department.
The last crews assigned to the response left the scene around midnight on Thursday, January 16. “The flames were brought under control around 8pm. We enlisted the help of the Saint-Clet, Rivière-Beaudette, Saint-Télesphore, Sainte-Justine-de-Newton and Saint-Zotique fire departments, as well as the Pincourt air bank. In all, some forty firefighters took part in the extinguishing operation.”
On this Thursday, January 16, Mr. Bélanger and his team were back on rue Gauthier due to the presence of a suspicious odor perceived by the occupants of the premises. “We're here to make sure everything is out and that we won't have to come back in the next few hours,” he adds.
After the fire department had left, the residents of the fire-damaged dwelling were unable to return to their homes due to the extensive damage sustained. On the other hand, the neighbors of the two neighbouring residences were able to return to their homes without concern.
In closing, Mr. Bélanger wishes to underline the excellent cooperation obtained by the fire departments involved in the response.“They did an excellent job on the scene. The response was swift and we got good cooperation from everyone,” he concludes.
