At their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 14, the elected officials of the City of Coteau-du-Lac authorized an accessibility study for the Alta industrial park on Route 201. The process, which will begin in the very near future, will take about a year to complete.

“In 2017, the City obtained a ministerial decree authorizing the expansion of the Alta industrial park to accommodate more businesses within it. According to data at the time, this expansion will bring more than 3,000 vehicle movements to the area over a 10-year period. At present, Exit 17, which provides access to the site, is not configured to handle this many vehicles, the majority of which are trucks or road trains. The risk of accidents is high. It is therefore essential to find a safe solution,” explained Mayor Andrée Brosseau on the subject.

In collaboration with DEV, the City of Coteau-du-Lac will sign an agreement to allow a private firm to carry out this accessibility study.  “The solution determined following this analysis will optimize access to the industrial park from Highway 20 via exits 14 and 17,” added Coteau-du-Lac general manager Jacques Legault.

All the councillors present at the meeting - Alain Laprade, François Décosse, André Legros and Patrick Delforge - spoke in favor of the study. Mr. Laprade did, however, have one comment to share. “I had a reservation about including Exit 14 in this study. I didn't want this gesture to delay the work to be done on Exit 17. However, the mayor assured me that this would not be the case.”

For the moment, it is not possible to know when the work linked to the solution identified in the conclusion of the forthcoming study will be carried out. However, it is likely that the work could be carried out within five to ten years.
