Hugo Gendreau, who has held the position of District 1 Councillor for the Town of Pincourt since 2021, announced his resignation at the January 14 council meeting.

In a letter addressed to his colleagues and tabled at the meeting, the father of a family indicated that family reasons have prompted him to move. As a result, he is unable to continue his mandate.

“I have the good fortune to be the father of two young boys and also to act, with my wife, as a foster family for three other children. So we're a family of seven! To meet our space requirements, we're moving to another house, outside the Pincourt territory, in another municipality of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC,” reads the letter, a copy of which was sent to Néomédia.

Hugo Gendreau launched himself into the world of municipal politics in 2021 with a view to offering a voice to Pincourt youth and young families.

“I've always been interested in politics. I've been involved at various levels. I wanted to get involved in my community to give a voice to young people and young families in the Pincourt Town Council, to have greater representation. I wanted to make more room for young people and recreational areas,” the thirty-year-old told Néomédia.

Despite his family and professional responsibilities, Hugo Gendreau is not drawing a definitive line under his political career.

“Municipal politics needs people who are committed and dedicated to the well-being of their fellow citizens. For my part, I'm not closing the door on a return to municipal politics one day. Serving my fellow citizens is a privilege, and I know I'll stay involved in one way or another,” he adds.

Learning for the benefit of citizens

During his time as a councillor, Mr. Gendreau has collaborated on numerous projects, including the construction of various sports and community infrastructures such as basketball, pickleball, the Pump Track and the Skate Plaza.

“Every achievement is the result of a joint effort. And none of this would have been possible without our municipal civil servants, who do essential work.(...) Being a municipal councillor has been a unique and enriching experience for me, enabling me to contribute to improving the living environment of my fellow citizens.”

No election before November

With the resignation of Hugo Gendreau, the councillor's seat will remain vacant until the next municipal election in November 2025. As a result, the Town of Pincourt will not have to pay for a by-election.
