The Town of Hudson will acquire the neighboring lot of the Gurdwara Sikh Temple on Main Street, a site previously designated for the Villa Wyman project.

Hudson Mayor Chloé Hutchison revealed during the council meeting on January 8 that a purchase offer was submitted to the lot’s owners shortly before the holidays and was ultimately accepted on January 8.

“The resolution for the acquisition will be presented at the next council meeting on February 2. The goal of purchasing the property is to develop an affordable housing project while collaborating with the neighbor to improve the flow of parking and traffic,” stated Hutchison.

The transaction amount had not been confirmed at the time of writing.

“Given that the CMM reimburses up to 20% of the project’s value, including professional fees and the land acquisition, this seems like a win-win for Hudson,” the mayor added.

Announced in 2022, the Villa Wyman project was to feature 18 affordable housing units for seniors, with 80% subsidized. The project was planned for Main Street in the heart of Hudson and represented a $4,255,326 investment.

In 2023, Soulanges MNA Marilyne Picard announced a $1.8 million grant to support the project.

Unfortunately, the project was canceled at the end of 2023 due to a disagreement between Villa Wyman’s administration and the Gurdwara Sikh Temple regarding parking arrangements.
