Each year, the Quebec government publishes its population decree. While this is not an official census, it serves various purposes, including the application of laws and regulations, generating statistics for calculating subsidies, and determining municipal contributions, among other uses.

The decree’s population figures are based on estimates by the Institut de la statistique du Québec as of July 1 of each year.

Once again this year, the population of Vaudreuil-Soulanges continues to grow, increasing from 167,845 residents in 2024 to 168,873 in 2025.

Unsurprisingly, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion experienced the largest growth in terms of new residents, with a population now standing at 46,065. This represents an increase of 623 people compared to the 2024 decree, which reported 45,442 residents.

In L'Île-Perrot, the population grew by 222 residents, rising from 11,678 to 11,900.

Rigaud also saw an uptick, with 192 additional residents. Its population increased from 7,951 in 2024 to an estimated 8,143 in 2025.

However, some municipalities experienced a decline. For example, the Municipality of Les Cèdres saw its population decrease from 7,226 to 7,182 residents.

Small municipalities on the rise
The government decree highlights a trend where smaller municipalities are gaining population at the expense of larger cities.

In percentage terms, Très-Saint-Rédempteur is set to experience a 6% population increase in 2025, growing from 1,080 to 1,142 residents. A similar trend is evident in Saint-Télesphore, where the population is projected to rise by 5.3%.

Les Coteaux and Rivière-Beaudette also show growth, with both municipalities expected to see a 3% increase in their populations.
