Jean-François Belleau to return to court in March
Sentenced to 27 months in prison in 2018, he is back in court
A Campivallensian who received a 27-month prison sentence in 2018 for crimes of a sexual nature was back before Judge Mylène Grégoire on Wednesday, January 8.
The charges against Jean-François Belleau, father of three, at the start of the new year stem from section 264 of the Criminal Code, which can be summarized as having made threats to kill or injure another person. The identity of the victim, or even his relationship to the accused, was not disclosed at the time of the court appearance.
In this case, the accused will have to appear before the Tribunal again on March 5. “A meeting is scheduled in this case at the end of January, so we're asking you to postpone it until early March,” Martin Pilotte, the accused's lawyer, told judge Mylène Grégoire. No further details about this appointment were made available during the accused's appearance in court.
A defendant with a lengthy criminal record
In October 2018, Jean-François Belleau was sentenced to 27 months in prison for sexual interference and sexual touching of a minor. His victim was 13 years old, and the assaults had occurred while the victim was living under the same roof as him.
The touching took place at three locations in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and at the Lac-des-Pins campsite. At the time, the victim was between 12 and 15 years old.
By the time he was sent to prison, Mr. Belleau was the father of three children aged 2, 4 and 14. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for sexual offences.
Mr. Belleau has a number of prior convictions for narcotics, possession of stolen goods, dangerous driving, impaired driving and uttering threats.
