18-year-old Vaudreuil-Dorion resident Laurence Libersan could well find herself among the 14 candidates selected to take part in the musical reality show Star Académie, airing this winter on TVA. The young woman will first have to win over the public at the first Variété gala, to be held on Sunday January 19 at 7pm.

To help the public get to know her better, the artist, who works as an animator in a local youth center, will take part in the program En route vers Star Académie. Broadcast from January 13 to 16 at 7:30 p.m., the show will follow members of the teaching staff as they meet future academicians in their homes.

Only 14 of the 18 selected candidates will join Star Académie, where they will be able to hone their musical and human skills over the coming weeks.

On the reality show's Facebook page, Laurence describes herself as optimistic, funny and full of life. She was a cheerleader in high school and her mantra is “fake it till you make it”.

New this year: a free online voting system will be set up so that spectators can encourage their favorite candidate. Simply visit staracademie.ca to create your account and make your choice. A pair of tickets to attend one of the Sunday Variétés will also be drawn from among the participants.
