It is firmly rooted in society
Where does the tradition of New Year's resolutions come from?
Are you the type of person who makes resolutions on January 1? And do you generally keep them? While making resolutions at the start of the year is a time-honored tradition in our culture, its origins are somewhat mixed.
According to some sources, the tradition goes back as far as the 20th century BC. In those days, people didn't really care about losing weight or eating better. They had more down-to-earth goals.
For Christians, January 1 was a day to reflect on past mistakes and find ways to improve. Just as Jews celebrate Yom Kippur.
Whatever the case, making resolutions on January 1 is a time-honored tradition in society, although very few people actually follow through on them.
What about you? Are you planning to make any resolutions?
