A father from L'Île-Perrot has launched a petition so that citizens of the Ville de L'Île-Perrot can also have free access to the refrigerated skating rink in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot.

Published on the Change.org platform on December 23, the petition currently has 103 signatures out of a target of 200.

Marc-Antoine Roy-Brochu, the initiator of the petition and father of two 7-year-old children, is calling on the mayor of Île-Perrot, Pierre Séguin, and the municipal administration to make “every effort and take the necessary measures to collaborate in good faith, to commit to and participate in the realization of joint projects with the other municipalities located on Île Perrot and nearby. Joint projects that will benefit all citizens and families on Île Perrot, and accentuate the community effect. In addition, they should do everything in their power to ensure that Île Perrot residents have free access to the refrigerated skating rink at Parc des éperviers in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot.”

As a reminder, since November 25, the rink use policy has been revised to recognize the collaboration of partner cities in the management of the Cité-des-Jeunes arena. Access to the rink will be free at all times for residents of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, Pincourt, Terrasse-Vaudreuil and Vaudreuil-Dorion.

“We want to encourage residents of towns that are working in partnership with the City of NDIP to maintain access to a nearby arena, while we wait for the construction of an arena directly on Île Perrot,” explained Danie Deschênes, mayor of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, at the inauguration of the rink's roof.

During peak periods, users will be required to show proof of residence, and a $10 fee (taxes included) will be charged to residents of towns that are not partners in the management of the Aréna Cité-des-Jeunes.

Last August, the Ville de L'Île-Perrot condemned the fact that its young hockey-playing residents had to pay $350 more than their neighbors in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, Pincourt and Terrasse-Vaudreuil.

According to the Ville de L'Île-Perrot, the intermunicipal group that manages the Cité-des-Jeunes arena invited HMIP to give preference to residents of the three towns responsible for operating the sports facility.
