Gradual resumption of postal service at 8 a.m. on December 17
Canada Post's 55,000 employees will be back on the job this Tuesday
The Canada Industrial Relations Board has finally made its decision: Canada Post's 55,000 workers will be back at work this Tuesday, December 17 at 8am. The CIRB confirms that it took this decision after finding that negotiations between Canada Post and management had reached an impasse.
After two days of hearings, the CIRB ordered Canada Post to gradually resume operations tomorrow.
In fact, the terms of the current collective agreements have been extended until May 22, to give both parties time to negotiate the terms of their new employment contracts.
In a press release, Canada Post confirms that it has offered its employees a 5% wage increase, which was part of the proposals in its last global offer. This wage increase will be retroactive to the day after the expired agreements expire, with immediate effect. This means that employees will receive this salary adjustment in two instalments, one before Christmas and the other before the end of January.
