In 2025, homeowners living on the territory of the City of Coteau-du-Lac will see their municipal tax bills increase by 3.125%. Next year's fiscal year, which includes a decrease in the general tax rate, was unanimously adopted by elected officials at a special meeting held this Tuesday, December 10 at 7pm.

For the year beginning January 1, 2025, the City of Coteau-du-Lac's operating budget will be $18,219,841, compared with $16,114,809 for the fiscal year ending December 31. The difference between the two budgets is 2,015,032, or 11.55%.

The vast majority of the Town's revenues in 2025 will come from municipal taxes, which are expected to bring in $15,479,245, or $1,630,661 more than in 2024, for a difference of 10.53%.

Other sources of revenue anticipated in the 2025 budget are: payment in lieu of taxes ($144,888), transfers ($673,865), services rendered ($792,716), fees ($764,050), fines and penalties ($32,100) and interest ($332,976).

Expenses have been broken down by municipal department. Public safety ($3,135,198), transportation ($3,129,315) and environmental health ($3,144,245) top the list of expenses for 2025. They are closely followed by general administration ($2,239,674), recreation and culture ($2,115,010) and depreciation of fixed assets ($2,786,527). For planning and development, we plan to spend $1,419,7189. Financing costs amount to $494,176, while health and well-being comes in at the very bottom of the list with $57,284.

As for co-payments, there are three. The Ville de Coteau-du-Lac will pay $975,864 to the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges in 2025, 8.8% more than the current year. It will do the same with the Sûreté du Québec, which will cost $1,942,537, or 9.1% more than in 2024. Of this amount, the SQ will pay a rebate to the City, estimated at around $410,494. Finally, the City of Coteau-du-Lac will contribute $4,96,833 to the Régie d'assainissement des eaux, an increase of 18.5% over 2024.

Tax rates per $100 of assessment, which will be officially adopted by elected officials in January, are calculated as follows:

- Non-residential + 5M: 1.0664%;

- Non-residential - 5M: .80$;

- Residential: $0.33;

- Industrial: $1.0719

- Vacant lots: $0.4434;

- 6 units and +: $0.3537;

- Agricultural: 0.33%.

For services offered to residents, the tax rate in 2025 will be: $195 for water, $215 for sewer and sanitation, $107 for garbage and $64 for organic matter.

In 2024, the tax rate per $100 of assessment for the residential sector was set at $0.48. What explains this significant drop?

“We're changing the assessment roll in 2025, and since residential values have risen considerably, the tax rate will drop accordingly,” explained Jacques Legault, Director General of the City of Coteau-du-Lac.
