Family daycare: planned half-day strikes suspended
Good news for Suroît families whose children attend a family daycare center: the half-day strike scheduled for later in December has been suspended. This decision was taken following an agreement in principle reached between the Quebec government and the Fédération des intervenantes en petite enfance du Québec (FIPEQ-CSQ) in recent days.
This body represents some 9,000 members across the province. The agreement initialled between Quebec and FIPEQ-CSQ has yet to be presented to the unions and put to a vote by the members.
According to a press release issued by the office of the President of the Conseil du trésor, Sonia LeBel, the new agreement will expire in 2028. If ratified by the members, it “will increase the number of spaces, encourage the care of infants (under 18 months) and improve the attraction and retention of family child care providers.”
