A cigarette butt may have caused a fire in Coteau-du-Lac
A detached garage on the property at 59 rue Gaëtan-Guérin in Coteau-du-Lac was dammaged by flames on Sunday evening, November 24. The call was forwarded to the emergency call center at 9:30 p.m., and the response required the presence of three fire departments from the region.
“The fire spread to the exterior wall and attic of the garage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigations suggest that a cigarette butt may have been responsible. The rapid intervention of firefighters limited the damage to the building, and more specifically to two exterior walls, the attic and an exterior wall. The owners of the premises will no doubt have to reinvest a few thousand dollars to repair the damage,” says Patrick Laberge-Poirier, Director of the Coteau-du-Lac Fire Department.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported following the intervention. As protocol dictates, the Coteau-du-Lac fire brigade had to call on its colleagues from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Saint-Zotique for this intervention. In all, some twenty firefighters were on hand to respond to the call.
