On Friday November 15, the Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (CETAM) broke ground on its new fire station in Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Completion and official opening of the building, located at the corner of Route 340 and Chemin Saint-Louis, is scheduled for June 2025.

At 10 a.m. on Friday, CETAM dignitaries and paramedics gathered on site to formalize the start of construction. On hand were MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges prefect Patrick Bousez, Saint-Lazare mayor Geneviève Lachance and Soulanges MNA Marilyne Picard.

The silhouette of the future state-of-the-art building can already be seen on the site. The modern building will be able to accommodate paramedics 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will include garage space for up to 14 ambulances, offices, medical storage, an emergency measures room, a protective equipment storage room (changing room) for paramedics, common areas such as a kitchen, as well as a propane tank, generator and containers. The total cost of the project is $4.1 million.

“ It's a great day for Saint-Lazare. It's a joy and a great source of pride for me to be here today. CETAM is an important link in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, and we are delighted to welcome them to our territory. Their arrival is part of an overall strategy to meet the growing needs of our community. It's a clear commitment to making the health and well-being of our regional population a priority. What's more, because of its location, it's right next to the future hospital, which will open its doors in 2026 ,” emphasized Ms. Lachance shortly before the groundbreaking ceremony.

CETAM praised Ms. Picard and Mr. Bousez for their cooperation and attentiveness in bringing this major project to fruition.

“ There are six fire stations in the Montérégie region, and we're replacing one that's coming to the end of its life with this project. It's not a luxury. In all, between 50 and 60 paramedics will be called upon to work here over the course of a week, which will have a major impact on our coverage of the region ,” added Jérémy Ménard, Assistant General Manager of CETAM.

In closing, when asked to comment on the news, MP Marilyne Picard said she was delighted.As the mother of a severely disabled daughter, she is delighted that CETAM will soon be coming to Saint-Lazare, both for the local population and for the employees who will be working in this modern, stimulating environment.
