From Monday, November 18 to Monday, November 25, Ville-de-L'Île-Perrot is advising its residents that it will be carrying out maintenance work at its drinking water treatment plant. This work will cause temporary disruptions to the entire water supply system, including two boil water advisories on November 18 and 25.

When operations begin, a reduction in water pressure will be observed. Accordingly, 2 preventive boil water advisories will be issued for the entire territory and communicated to all citizens.

- 1st precautionary boil water advisory: from November 18, 2024 at 7 a.m. to November 19, 2024 at 12 p.m.

- 2nd precautionary boil advisory: from November 25, 2024 at 7 a.m. to November 26, 2024 at 12 p.m.

What will you have to do?

During a boil water advisory, and until a notice to the contrary is issued, users of the water system who use tap water must first bring it to a rolling boil for one minute, or opt for bottled commercial water, for all the following uses:

- Drinking and preparing a glass of water or beverages;

- Preparing baby bottles and baby food;

- Washing and preparing raw foods (fruit, vegetables, etc.);

- Preparing foods that do not require prolonged cooking (canned soups, desserts, etc.);

- Making ice cubes* ;

- Brush teeth and rinse mouth;

- Water pets.

* Throw away ice cubes (don't forget refrigerator tanks), drinks and food prepared with unboiled tap water, if available.

Tap water can still be used for :

- Preparing food and dishes that require prolonged boiling;

- Washing dishes in hot water with detergent, making sure to dry them thoroughly;

- Run the dishwasher on the hottest cycle;

- Wash clothes and take a shower or bath. For young children, make sure they don't ingest water while bathing, or wash them with a washcloth.

If you have a water treatment device in your home, you should apply the measures outlined above, unless it's a home purifier designed to disinfect water. Devices such as softeners are generally ineffective at eliminating microorganisms.

Schools, businesses and institutions served

Notify your customers that the water is unfit for consumption, close water fountains and post the information where water is still available.

Rusty, cloudy water

You may experience problems with cloudy or rusty water during the construction period. In this case, we recommend that you let the cold water run for about ten minutes, preferably in the bathtub. If your clothes have been soiled, we suggest that you use a stain remover immediately after washing, before drying.

The City will be sending citizens an alert via the municipal alert and information system (SAI) on Sunday evening, November 17 and 24, to remind them to put in place preventive boil-water advisories. We invite you to check your text messages and e-mails.

Citizens wishing to register for the SAI system can fill in the form on the Town's website.

Updated information will also be posted on the Town's website, electronic signs and Facebook page. Citizens are invited to share this notice with vulnerable, isolated or frail people in their neighbourhood. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, and thanks residents for their understanding.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact Technical Services at 514-453-1751, ext. 244, or by e-mail at [email protected].
