At its November 18 meeting, the municipal council of the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion will propose the adoption of a resolution repealing resolution no. 24-11-0871, which authorized the conditional use to allow the construction of a three-storey residential building, with 100% of the 18 units being affordable housing, located at 25, rue Saint-Michel.

“The housing crisis is a major problem. The municipal council has decided to make affordable and social housing its priority, to enable families to find housing at an adequate price. We began work on the project at 25, rue Saint-Michel a few months ago, before the CMM published the preliminary flood zone maps resulting from the Quebec government's bill. I would remind you that, according to the current flood zone maps, the proposed building is not in a flood zone. So, in addition to the 1300 Vaudreuil-Dorion homeowners whose residences are affected by this provisional mapping and who are victims of the improvisation of the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs, we are adding the citizens who would have benefited from this affordable housing project. Contrary to what the citizens say, we have listened to them and understood that the opinion of the citizens of the area with regard to the project was irreversible. Although this project has proceeded in accordance with the steps set out in our bylaws and the provincial laws to which we are subject as a City, the Board will quickly turn its attention to the consultation process that surrounds the implementation of affordable and social housing projects. Unfortunately, the organization Toit d'Abord Habitations abordables Vaudreuil-Soulanges is experiencing the effects of this storm. I would like to thank all the volunteers who sit on the NPO's Board of Directors and who have found themselves taken to task when their only desire is to use their expertise for the good of our community,” declared Mayor Guy Pilon.

The non-profit organization Toit d'abord Habitations abordables Vaudreuil-Soulanges is the developer of this affordable housing project, for which the municipal council authorized conditional use at the last public meeting. The mission of this NPO is to build, purchase, convert and renovate buildings for affordable housing.

The land on rue Saint-Michel was chosen because it is already owned by the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion. The objective was to transfer the land to the organization free of charge, in order to secure financing leverage for future affordable housing projects
