This weekend
Maxime Deschamps and partner Deanna Stellato-Dudek star in Finland
This week, six Canadian athletes will travel to Helsinki, Finland, for the fifth stop of the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix series. Among them are Vaudreuil-Dorion's Maxime Deschamps and his partner Deanna Stellato-Dudek.
The Finlandia Trophy will take place from November 15 to 17, and will feature two pair teams and one ice dance team representing Canada.
In the pair competition, world champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps will once again be aiming for the podium, after winning gold at Skate Canada International (IPC) last month. They will be joined by pairs skaters Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Éthier, who will be looking to apply the lessons learned to improve both their programs, after placing tenth at IPC.
Following their fifth consecutive IPC title, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will draw on their experience in the ice dance event. The team will be aiming for another medal, as they look to secure a place at the Figure Skating Grand Prix Final, to be held in Grenoble, France, at the end of the month.
