Hudson: flushing the aqueduct in Alstonvale and the Hudson Valleys
Hudson's public works team advises residents that it has begun flushing a portion of its water system in the Alstonvale and Hudson Valleys neighborhoods. The process will take place weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is scheduled to continue until Friday, November 8.
Flushing the water system removes mineral sediments (including iron and rust particles) deposited by the water on the inside walls of the pipes. This process also helps maintain drinking water quality. In addition, regular maintenance of the aqueduct ensures proper operation of the system, including street valves and hydrants.
System flushing may result in:
- A temporary drop in water pressure,
- Discoloration of the water due to the detachment of iron particles.
Use of tap water during this period:
If your water appears discolored, it's best to :
- Let the cold water run until it becomes clear again (this may take up to 30 minutes) or,
- Wait until after 4 p.m. before doing laundry, washing dishes, etc.
NOTE: Never leave a tap running unattended.
