The Quebec government is awarding a grant of up to $359,847 to the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion for its project to acquire equipment for the collection of residential organic waste.

This financial support will make it possible to serve 14,166 occupancy units with a view to collecting organic materials and offering residential collection throughout the territory.

Collection of these materials has been underway since 2018, and they are sent to GSI Environnement's composting site in Lachute. An estimated 4,030 tonnes of food and green residues will be collected annually.

“Already, throughout Quebec, we're seeing the positive impacts of municipal composting and the keen interest it's arousing. I congratulate the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion for taking a step that is both positive for the environment and a source of hope for future generations,” said Benoit Charette, Minister of the Environment, in a press release.

“This project is another fine example of the commitment of local people to protecting the environment and playing an active part in the fight against climate change in Quebec. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a challenge we must all take up together, for our own good and that of future generations. I am therefore delighted that, thanks to our government's financial contribution, our region can do more.I would like to thank the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion for its commitment to reducing its ecological footprint, while offering local, quality services to its community,” said Suzanne Roy, Minister responsible for the Montérégie region.
