Back at the Palais de justice de Montréal, Samuel Moderie, the Saint-Zotique resident accused of drugging and raping 13 women, could well be sentenced to 25 years in prison. At least, that's what the Crown is asking for.

For his part, the main offender admits that he should be labelled a “long-term offender” and hopes to get off with a 15-year sentence.

Between July 2023 and January 2023, Samuel Moderie sexually assaulted 13 women he met via various dating applications, including Tinder, Badoo and JALF. His modus operandi was to drug his victims and then rape them. He took advantage of the fact that his victims were unconscious to photograph and film his abuse with a cell phone.

According to information reported by Le Journal de Montréal, Moderie's lawyer, Robert Bellefeuille, is seeking a more lenient sentence for his client, pointing out that, according to a psychiatrist, it would be possible to gradually reduce his client's dangerousness, with appropriate treatment.

The Crown, represented by Me Jérôme Laflamme, believes that the accused deserves a 25-year sentence, one of the highest ever handed down in the country, as this is a unique case.

Since the judge took his decision under advisement, Samuel Moderie's fate should be known in January 2025.
