Mobility in the Vaudreuil Riding
Marie-Claude Nichols launches #mobilitéVaud
On Tuesday, October 22, Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols launched #mobilitéVaud, a hashtag that citizens of the region can use on social media to share their experiences related to mobility.
Nichols hopes her initiative will help the CAQ government better understand the scope of the situation and its impact on the daily lives of citizens.
“There is a heaviness in Vaudreuil,” the MNA described. “Everyone is tired of being held hostage by massive traffic jams. There are solutions, and local stakeholders are ready to get involved. The best example is the bypass for Highway 20, which could be started quickly. The city of Vaudreuil-Dorion has even proposed to take charge of the project. The CAQ government needs to wake up—and fast. There’s an urgent need to act to free the people of Vaudreuil-Soulanges.”
Concerned about the significant impact of traffic congestion in Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the independent MNA has taken numerous actions over the past few months to highlight to the CAQ government the issues traffic poses to both the safety and economic well-being of her constituency's population.
She is inviting people to share their experiences on social media to highlight the significant impact of the situation on their daily lives. The #mobilitéVaud hashtag can also be used to share information related to road congestion.
Public Safety
Traffic issues are a major source of frustration for drivers. Concerned by parents’ reports calling her office about abnormal traffic flows passing through their residential neighborhoods, endangering their children's safety, the MNA asked the CAQ government to act on September 26, during a question in the Salon Rouge.
“Yet no concrete measures have been taken by the government since,” she lamented.
Marie-Claude Nichols is calling for urgent measures, while also asking drivers to avoid cutting through residential neighborhoods to save time. Despite the growing impatience, she reminds everyone that safety is the priority and the responsibility of all.
Economic Security
On October 8, the MNA addressed the National Assembly, urging Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault to quickly implement solutions to the region’s traffic problems, as local businesses are struggling.
She cited the example of a local businesswoman who is fighting to keep her Vaudreuil-Dorion store afloat, while her other locations in other cities are doing well.
She also mentioned weekly losses of $100,000 for some merchants and over $600,000 per month for major retailers.
Last week, Ms. Nichols conducted a tour of local businesses to discuss the impact of traffic congestion on their development. She also used the opportunity to introduce them to #mobilitéVaud.
Finally, Marie-Claude Nichols encourages citizens to share respectful comments and stories related to mobility by including the #mobilitéVaud hashtag in their social media posts.
Citizens are also encouraged to write directly to Minister Geneviève Guilbault and Soulanges CAQ MNA Marilyne Picard, urging the government to act quickly to free the population from traffic congestion.
