Campivallensian Yan Lecompte was back in court this Monday, October 21, at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse. The 40-year-old accused of several sexual offences against minor victims appeared before Judge Joey Dubois to continue his case.

He is represented by Alexandre Dubé for the defense. His counterpart and representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office is Me Kim Emond. Mr. Lecompte is currently being held at the Bordeaux penitentiary in Montreal. At the time of the first charges laid against him, he was heavily involved in a well-known local sports association as a coach and member of the board of directors.

The accused is facing charges of sexual interference and assault on minor victims. He also has other cases coming back to court on October 30. In these, he faces charges of sexual assault, touching, incitement to sexual touching of the victim and his person, sexual exploitation, production and possession of child pornography, transmission of sexually explicit material, luring and exhibitionism.

Among other things, he allegedly maintained an extramarital relationship with a minor for several years. The abuse began when she was 12 years old and continued for 10 years.

“We received a new disclosure of evidence in the files earlier today. I am therefore asking you to postpone the case for a few weeks so that we can take a position on the preliminary inquiry and the bail hearing. At this stage, all indications are that there will be no bail hearing at 98%, but we should be able to take a position at the next date. The preliminary inquiry would cover only certain charges, and not all of the six victims. A time slot of 2 to 3 hours should be sufficient for our debates,” Me Alexandre Dubé told the judge.

He asked that his client's next appearance be by videoconference. He will return to court on November 25 for further proceedings in his case.
