During the winter of 2024-2025, the Ville de Coteau-du-Lac will be responsible for snow removal on part of its territory. Then, in winter 2025-2026, all local streets will be cleared by the local public works team.

With this in mind, at their regular meeting on Thursday, October 10, the elected officials approved an expenditure of $452,190.93, taxes included, for the purchase of a 10-wheel truck with snow removal equipment. The vehicle will be purchased from W. Côté e& Fils of Mercier, the only bidder.

Since it will not be used this winter, the vehicle will not be delivered until fall 2025. “The warranty will only start then, which will be preferable,” said District 1 Councillor Alain Laprade, after calling for a vote on the resolution. He spoke in favor of the purchase.

For his part, District 3 Councillor André Legros said he was in agreement, since this purchase “will enable the Town to get off on the right foot and offer good service to its citizens in terms of snow removal.”

Isabelle Lemay and Christine Arseneault of districts 4 and 5 also spoke in favor of the purchase. Councillor Patric Delforge of district 6 also gave his approval.

During the same meeting, Council also proceeded with the hiring of two day laborers who will be assigned to snow removal during the summer season. They are Denis Charbonneau and Patrick Benoit, while Sylvain Guibord will act as team leader.

“These employees will be able to lend a hand to the public works team for the rest of the year. I'd like to reassure residents that, even with their hiring, the City of Coteau-du-Lac will save more money by clearing its own snow than by awarding the contract to an outside firm,” added Mr. Delforge.
