The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is taking advantage of Waste Reduction Week to hold an event aimed at consuming less, but better.

Free of charge, the fifth edition of the Réparothon will take place on Saturday, October 26, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Centre multisports André-Chagnon.

The following partners will be on hand to share their knowledge and help visitors repair various objects:

- Aiguisage CL (knife sharpening - maximum of three) ;

- Center d'action bénévole L'Actuel (ephemeral mini-triper shop) ;

- Cercle des fermières (simple clothing repair) ;

- Comité 21 (textile circular economy) ;

- PC-Teck (computer problem-solving);

- Scout 19e Vaudreuil-Dorion (repair of jewelry, broken or unsoldered objects) ;

- Tricentris (good recycling practices).

New this year: residents are invited to bring their used clothing to donate or exchange for new finds at the mini thrift store.

“In Quebec, a large proportion of clothing purchased ends up in landfill. This new edition of Réparothon will feature a number of players involved in textile reuse, repair and recycling, demonstrating how to extend the life of clothing. Take advantage of this opportunity to repair, modify or even improve your old clothes,” says Oriana Farina, Head of the Environment Division.

It will also be possible to repair broken books at the Vaudreuil-Dorion library kiosk. Le Lab will be giving a second life to old clothes through digital printing. To do so, visitors will need to bring along their clothing or fabric pieces, along with their images in digital format on a USB key.

Citizens can also dispose of batteries, corks, pencils and pens at the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion kiosk.

Workshops

Two workshops will be held throughout the day, with a view to learning how to reduce at source. The first, led by Les Affûtés, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will focus on embroidery and visible repair. To attend, simply register at [email protected].

The second workshop, which runs continuously from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., requires no reservation. It will be led by a Motio representative who will explain how to make your own household products.

Conference

As part of Écodécouvertes, Mélissa de La Fontaine, advisor and zero waste lifestyle and ecological transition facilitator for COOP Incita, will hold a conference on Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m. at the municipal library, on the subject of the depreciation of objects after a certain period of time.

During this meeting, participants will have the opportunity to better understand the many facets of obsolescence, and to discover the ways in which they can be part of the solution.

People interested in attending this conference can already register online on the City's website.
